SCUBA Hotel Island Rates Photos About Us

ABOUT US
  • We are a group of divers who have been traveling the Caribbean for over 30 years.
  • We saw the need for a true diver's hotel in Nassau. We have incorporated the best ideas that we could into this facility to make it as "DIVER FRIENDLY" as possible.
  • There are outside rinse facilities and drying areas as well as storage lockers (bring your own lock) in front of each unit.
  • We are the only hotel on the island that has a dive facility on premises with tanks for shore diving.
  • Our swimming pool is less than 6 feet from our tank room. You are welcome to use the pool to fine-tune skills, check your weighting, or set up your camera.
  • Our seasonal Marine Education program for children is designed to teach them about your special world while you are away diving or shopping. The program includes snorkel and SASY classroom and pool, fish ID, reef ecology, marine crafts, and more!
  • We offer afternoon Scuba, family snorkeling, SASY, and Ocean Kayak trips.
  • For the majority of the year we are a family oriented operation. During special periods we cater to singles and couples. There are also special "college break" periods with themes for college students and sorority/fraternity groups. Whether it be a family period or a special week, we offer a full program of activities for non-divers

LAND SHARK ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

As divers we are very keenly aware of the impact we have on OUR UNDERWATER WORLD and the rest of the world. Natural resources are a precious limited commodity in the Bahamas as well as the rest of the world. Petroleum is burned to produce electricity, putting waste to the air, which is washed into the ocean. There is no recycling in the BAHAMAS at present except for glass bottles by the Kalik Brewery. Solid waste, in the Bahamas as well as the rest of the world, is a problem. Think of it, we have to dedicate land area in paradise to the disposal of waste and some of it is toxic to our oceans. Rain fall eventually causes the leaching of toxic substances into OUR SEA.  Every day millions of gallons of water are wasted washing towels that have been used only once.

Therefore to do our part, albeit a small part from a small hotel, we will do our best because every journey begins with a small step. We as divers must be stewards of the environment. At Land Shark we will do our part in the following ways:

  • Each room is equipped with an in-line hot water heater to supply instant hot water to the shower and sinks. This cuts down on the waste of electricity. It also cuts water waste. When you turn the tap on, hot water will be there very quickly.
  • If you desire to have your towels or your washcloths laundered, put them in the plastic container and place it beside your door. Otherwise the maid will hang up towels and washcloths to dry in your room.
  • Each guest also receives a complimentary bar mug. All of your beverages will be put in this mug. We will wash it out for you and put your new drink, beer, soft or mixed, in it for you. The use of disposables in the bar and restaurant will be kept at an absolute minimum. We will only serve Kalik beer in bottles as they are recycled.
  • Guests are asked to please take all batteries home as this is a small island and toxins from batteries in the waste dump here will eventually end up in the oceans.
  • Each room is equipped with a quality ceiling fan as well as an energy efficient air conditioning unit to help lower electricity usage in the cooling of your room.
  • Our tiki restaurant is open air with several ceiling fans and high ceilings to keep cool with low energy usage.
  • Each bath receives a large bar of soap at the beginning of your stay (no small ?disposable? bars each day).
  • We try to use unbleached paper products (Chlorine bleaching of paper releases dioxins into the environment).

Thank you for helping us to conserve OUR EARTH’S vital resources and do a small part to protect OUR OCEANS.
